It almost seems like there are two seperate apps. Sharing is different, ability to download is different. I have found that I get very different results depending on which I choose. Reading text on things that I scan, for instance, sometimes is very different between the two formats. Can you help me understand what the future holds here?
Mesh and Splat are two very different ways to capture 3D data. One would typically use a Mesh for capturing a small(er than a house) object, whereas a Spalt can capture large, even open areas or buildings.
Mesh will try to create a single manifold model. This, as you are aware, can be exported to many different types of rendering applications such as blender etc.
Splats are fairly new to the scene, for consumers at least, but do not create monifold models like the Mesh option does. The splat simply creates a 3 dimensional map of “points” in a space, or a “cloud”; hence the name pointcloud. While the Scaniverse app sure does a great job at executing the pointcloud data with texturing captured from the camera, many applications will only accept the raw pointcloud data, which can be difficult to work with and texture.
