Kure City Hiroshima Japan

Kure City was once a large naval base. The facilities are now used by the Self-Defense Forces and various shipbuilding companies. I’ll give you a brief introduction to Kure City.

This is a place where a submarine actually used by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force is exhibited. Its name is “Akishio.” It is located in the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Museum, and you can actually enter the submarine. Admission is free. It is a very popular facility.

This is the “Former Kure Naval Base Office.” It was one of Japan’s four naval bases, built long ago to prepare Japan for wars around the world. It was bombed and partially destroyed at the end of World War II, but has been beautifully restored and is now used as a base for the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. It is open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays, and is a popular spot for visitors to Kure City.
