かもめハープ (Seagull Harp)
This sculpture is located in Yokohama Red Brick Park. It was created based on the winning design from a public competition to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Yokohama Junior Chamber of Commerce. It is based on the image of “seagulls gently nurturing the city, playing the tunes of Yokohama.”

The “Carp Origin Story Statue” was made 70 years after the atomic bombing. In Hiroshima, Japan, “Carp” refers to the Japanese professional baseball team, the Hiroshima Toyo Carp. The Carp team was founded in Hiroshima five years after the atomic bombing. At the time, the team was extremely weak, but it was loved by the people of Hiroshima as a team of hope. The children on this statue are the protagonists of the manga “Carp Origin Story” by cartoonist Keiji Nakazawa. It represents the children who lost their parents and families in the war finding hope and living strong lives by supporting the Carp.

“Flossie” by Mary Lou Hunt. Part of a local statuary project from 2012. I submitted this one because I used this subject for a contest task for 3D rendering many years ago, and because her braces (she is in front of an orthodontist’s office, suitably) always make me smile.
