What is 3D Gaussian Splatting?

Gaussian splatting is a new 3D reconstruction technique that allows for high detail and accurate representation of lighting, transparency, and reflection. It starts by reconstructing a point cloud from a set of input images. These points are converted to gaussians, each represented by its position, orientation, scale, opacity and color. The gaussians are optimized to fit the input images, resulting in a model that can accurately represent the appearance of the scene from all viewing angles.

For the first time ever with Scaniverse, Gaussian splatting is available directly on your mobile device, without any server processing. This means that your scans will look more stunning and life-like than before - and you can do it all from your phone.
