Hi,
I’ve created two scans using my iPhone and have authorized Into the Scaniverse for my Quest 3.
However, the scans do not show in the profile panel on my Quest 3.
Can anyone tell me what am I doing wrong ?
Cheers
Hi! To view your own splats they first need to be either posted publicly to the map (Share > Post to Map) or shared as an unlisted link (Share > Share Link).
Inside of the Scanvierse mobile app, on your profile you can see your Public (visible to anyone) & Unlisted (visible only to you and anyone who has the generated link) splats on your profile.
Thanks for the quick reply !
Unfortunately, the iOS app (V4.0.4, which is the latest) does not have a “Share → Post to Map” option.
The Share option shows only the following:
Share Link
Send In Message
Post to Sketchfab
Create Video
Export Model
If I choose “Share Link”, it does generate a link but if I open that link in the Quest browser, it doesn’t include an option to view the scan in VR.
Note that I’m running iOS 18.2, if that’s any help…
Ah! That appears to be the share options for a mesh scan. At this time we only support splats for posting to the map & viewing in Into the Scaniverse.
If you have saved the raw scan data (enabled in settings), you should be able to reprocess as a splat ( select mesh > three dot menu top right > reprocess scan).
If not, please scan again as a splat.
Hm - ok.
This is the first time I’ve used the app, so I’m not familiar with the options.
I thought (wrongly, it seems) that the default was a splat but now I see that I don’t have that option at all !
When I scan I get these options:
Speed (DEPTH FUSION)
Area (DEPTH FUSION)
Detail (PHOTOGRAMMETRY)
Since it’s the first time I’ve used the app, I didn’t look out for a “splat” option (which I guess is missing on my app), or have I got it all wrong ?
Note that I’ve using an iPhone XS. Should I be able to do splats with it ?
Cheers
Ah - I believe I know what’s going on now !
I have an iPad and installed Scaniverse V4.0.4 on it and the option to scan as a Splat or Mesh does appear !
So it seems that Scaniverse does not support splat scanning on iPhone XS.
After scanning all the documentation, I notice that there is a note to this effect: “Note: At the moment, some older devices do not support creating Gaussian splats”.
I’ll submit a bug report, as I feel that the app should tell the user about this limitation.
Cheers,
Peter
Thank you for the additional context – we could definitely make this clearer in the app and FAQ. I was able to confirm that splat scanning is supported on iPhone 12 and newer.
