I’m creating splats to view in VR and I’m using an iPhone 16 MAX and the latest version of the Scaniverse iOS V4.0.6 and unfortunately when viewing the results on my Meta Quest 3 most of them give the warning unoptimized for VR and some then kick me out of the capture back to the map. After creation I always hit the optimize button until it doesn’t come up anymore but this doesn’t seem to help. Am I doing something wrong when scanning? Other scans on the map are as large as mine but don’t have any problems loading and displaying. I need help!
Hi @SFMike3D, thank you for writing in and reporting this issue!
We’re seeing this on our end as well and are currently investigating the issue. Will let you know when a fix is out!
I also posted something similar at the start of the year. Almost all of my scans crash back to the main menu when trying to view them on Quest 3 giving the “unoptimized for VR” error. I still haven’t received a solution to my post. Can’t Scaniverse simply incorporate an “Optimize for VR” button that we can press to reprocess all our scans to?
Surely we can also have multiple versions of scans as well, eg “High Resolution” for 3D printing and online viewing, “VR Resolution” for VR etc
Hi all, good news—the issue has been found and fixed!
An update has been released for Scaniverse on iOS where now, any splats that you post publicly and privately will show up in Into the Scaniverse with the right GPS tag, name, and will be vr-optimized.
The issue affects all splats that were shared (either publicly or privately) from iOS Scaniverse version 4.0.6.
Fixing splats retroactively
To fix splats that were posted with v4.0.6, you’ll need to delete their uploads. To do so:
- Update Scaniverse to the latest version (v.4.0.7 or above)
- Launch Scaniverse
- Select profile (the person looking icon at the top right corner, not to be confused with the Library at the bottom left corner)
- Select the splat (either Public or Unlisted)
- Select the “…” icon
- Select “Deleted shared scan”
- You’ll need to re-upload the splat, so
- Go to your Scaniverse Library
- Select the splat
- Select Share
- Select either Post to Map (to share publicly) or Share link (to share privately as an unlisted splat).
Hope that helps! Let me know if there are any issues that you run into.
Cheers,
Gave this a go and it still didn’t fix all of mine. Some still have the “not optimized for VR” message and crash back to the main menu when trying to view them.
In bug reports you posted last week that “An update has been released for Scaniverse on iOS where now, any splats that you post publicly and privately will show up in Into the Scaniverse with the right GPS tag, name, and will be vr-optimized.” Sadly, I have not found that this fix is working as you described. I did find after the update that some of my scans no longer were located in the ocean without naming conventions but they still were appearing with the “not optimized for VR” and sending me back to the map." This is a terrific app and if its to be successful it needs to work. New users will try once or twice, experience these bugs and not use the app again. If we are to have an exciting Scaniverese community the app needs to work properly. I’ve really enjoyed seeing bits of the world in VR and I would like to keep this project going but these glitches are shooting it in the foot.
