I have a feeling that this entire area is restricted from posting. However, I might just be unaware of something, so I’d appreciate it if you could clarify.
Previously, I encountered a similar issue when scanning a commercial facility in this area. All the scans I took there were missing GPS data, which made it impossible to post them.
In such areas, I’ve noticed that no other users’ data is available either, which makes me wonder if posting is entirely restricted for the whole area. Could you confirm if that is the case?
For reference, I’m using a Wi-Fi model iPad, so I’m generally not connected to the internet.
Hello, we appreciate you taking the time to reach out. To our knowledge, there aren’t any designated restricted areas that would prevent someone from posting. Additionally, we currently don’t have a way to add location data at a later point. I can ask around to see if there is any workaround to your issue or what we can suggest.
Thank you very much for taking the time to respond.
Most of the scan data I collected across almost all of the 23 wards of Tokyo was captured using a non-cellular iPad Pro. In fact, almost 100% out of the 7,500 scans I have posted were obtained while the device was offline, yet all of them were successfully posted to the map without any issues.
However, I was very surprised to find that the data I recently captured in the Chiba area and near the Tokyo-Chiba border was saved without embedded location information. In particular, the last time I scanned a relatively large park in Chiba, I noticed that no one had posted scans of that area on the map. This made me wonder if there might be another underlying cause beyond just my iPad lacking GPS functionality.
That said, a few days ago, I conducted another scan under similar conditions, but this time I connected my iPad to the internet using smartphone tethering. As a result, at least one of the scans correctly embedded its location data and was successfully posted. Based on this, I plan to revisit the same area soon to conduct further testing.
Additionally, I was previously using Rakuten Mobile for my mobile network, but to ensure a more stable connection for this investigation, I have switched to Ahamo, which operates on Docomo’s network, known for its strong coverage in major cities across Japan. Since Tokyo has been experiencing unstable weather since the beginning of April, it may take some time before I can proceed with the tests. However, I will provide further updates as soon as everything is ready.
